Tournaments

We held 16 tournaments in 2011. Our annual "Wimbledon" doubles tournament took place on Sunday the 10th of July on the grass courts. Well done to Martine Adley and Gary Armstrong for winning the adult section and to Max Harrison and Moritz Hesse for triumphing in the junior tournament. Well done to Max for also finishing in first place on the summer Berkshire leader board for mini tennis orange (9 and under) and to Satesh Mistry for ending the season with the no1 ranking on the mini tennis green Berkshire leader board (10 and under). Well done to Danyaal Talib for remaining unbeaten in all of his matches to convincingly win our tournament to mark the end of the summer season in September. We are planning to expand the tournament program in 2012. Details of our 2012 tournament program will be announced in March.

August 2011 - Road To Wimbledon 14 and Under Challenge

The Road to Wimbledon is a competition which involves 3 stages. Firstly players must win or come runner up in the club stage of the competition to qualify for the county finals. Players who win the county finals and some of the runners up with the best player ratings qualify for the national finals which are held at the All England Club. Fifteen players took part in the Reading Tennis Club Road to Wimbledon event. Well done to Joseph Dulston and Felix Stansfield for qualifying for the county finals. Felix was unlucky to lose a tight first match in the county finals. Joseph went on a great run in the county finals and eventually finished runner up which was enough to see him qualify for the national finals at Wimbledon. Joseph took on some of the best U14 players in the country at Wimbledon and managed to win one of his three round robin matches on the famous grass courts.

March 2008 - Name Change

The name of the tennis club will change back to 'Reading Tennis Club' on 1st of April 2008. This was our name prior to our move to the University in 2001 when we become the 'University of Reading Tennis Club'. The purpose of this change is to make it clearer that the club is open to everyone. The club will still continue to play on the grass courts and the floodlit hard courts at Reading University Whiteknights campus.
